PMG has selected three priority activity areas to increase awareness with respect to these issues:
- Human Trafficking
- Intellectual Property Rights
- Education
Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a growing global issue, with an estimated 800,000 people, most of them women and children, victimized every year. As a media conglomerate, Pink is in a unique position to further efforts to combat human trafficking. With a young viewing audience and entertainment programming that appeals to all educational levels, Pink can communicate information to victims of trafficking and to young women at risk.
Activities
-
2004 Fall Fashion Week Belgrade. To heighten awareness of trafficking, Pink joined forces with the MTV Europe Foundation
and the Serbian NGO ASTRA. Together, they sponsored a human trafficking day, an event covered by Pink in a special broadcast. Additionally, Pink broadcast anti-trafficking PSAs and purchased advertising in high-circulation print-media. As a direct result of the joint efforts, calls to Astra’s SOS hotline increased considerably.
- UN Public Service Announcements. TV Pink broadcast PSA's produced by the UN Office on Drug Control and Crime Prevention (UNODCCP) to combat human trafficking. PSA’s were broadcast in Serbian, Romanian, and other languages to widen message reach to all segments of the population.
-
Airing of “Inhuman Traffic,” MTV-Produced Documentary. TV Pink, Pink M and Pink BH joined 21 other broadcasters in 17 countries across the region in airing the MTV Europe documentary, narrated by Angelina Jolie, on International Women’s Day. Press Release
- 2005 Spring Fashion Week. Pink once again joined forces with the MTV Europe Foundation and ASTRA to repeat awareness-raising activities that were initiated during the 2004 Fall Fashion Week. Again, the target audience was girls and young women in the highest risk age bracket.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Protection
The Pink Media Group believes that the effective protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights is essential if Serbia is to achieve its growth potential through private sector development and foreign direct investment. Piracy and other forms of IPR infringement feed corruption and organized criminal activity that, in turn, undermine efforts to build a democratic, prosperous country.
Pink supports stakeholder and government efforts to improve IPR protection and enforcement in Serbia. Pink is a member of the Board of the Serbian Anti-Piracy Association (APA), and has participated directly in APA efforts to raise awareness and to work with the goverment to improve legislation and enforcement. Pink has also reached out to international organizations such as the U.S. Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the International Federation of Phonogrammic Industries (IFPI), the Recording Industries Association of America (RIAA) and the Business Software Alliance (BSA) to inform them of Pink’s activities and willingness to cooperate on joint activities and initiatives.
- Launch of Pink Digital System. Pink Digital System (PDS), an optical disc replication facility, was launched in spring, 2005. Pink’s CEO Zeljko Mitrovic made an unequivocal public statement that Pink supports efforts to crackdown on piracy and to improve IPR protection. The Serbian Customs Director also delivered remarks at the opening ceremony and commented on Serbian government efforts to combat piracy. PDS obtains SID numbers from IFPI to stamp audio CDs that are produced at the plant. Press Release
- Anti-Piracy PSA-Cooperation with Ministry of Finance. Pink cooperated with the Serbian Ministry of Finance, providing pro bono production assistance in developing a public service announcement to raise consumer awareness regarding piracy and counterfeit products. The PSA aired multiple times (free-of-charge) daily during peak viewing hours.
-
Media Sponsor of AmCham IPR Conference. Pink was the media sponsor for the American Chamber of Commerce’s IPR Conference held in June 2005. The Conference, opened by three Serbian government ministers, emphasized enforcement-related issues and attracted key participants: judges, police, tax/financial inspectors, customs and customs personnel. Experts were invited from MPA, IFPI and BSA. Pink provided wide coverage of the conference (including interviews with the ministers on the detrimental impact of piracy) and pro bono assistance in broadcasting a special program on the event.
-
Anti-Piracy PSA. Pink independently developed and produced a new anti-piracy public service announcement educating consumers on the poor quality of pirated products and the social/economic ‘cost’ of stealing ideas.
- Media Support to AmCham IPR Conference in Montenegro. Pink provided media coverage of this American Chamber of Commerce conference in Montenegro. The conference objective was to draw attention to Montenegro’s need to ‘clean-up’ counterfeit products in the market and enforce existing legislation.
Education
Since education is a key element in shaping the country’s future, Pink has chosen education as a priority for active community involvement.
- Class Visits to Pink Studios. Pink hosts school class visits to stimulate student interest in media and broadcasting. Students can see first-hand how a television broadcast network operates, what goes into creating a production,
- Student Internships. Pink has instituted a student internship program to give students “hands-on” experience. The internships are intended, to improve students’ prospects as they approach graduation and seek employment.
